X ray Diagnostics
Dental Practitioners want to provide the best care to their patients but a clinical check up does not tell us everything we need. Dental X-rays are a very helpful tool we need to use to diagnose the health of the gum, teeth, and the bone. We use these Xrays to
watch out for any dental problems before they become any more serious. Only after a thorough clinical examination and dental X-rays, we can make a decision on the heath of your oral cavity. If we do not find any cavities or growth issues, you can rest assure. X-rays are also called Radiographs and they give us the ability to see between your teeth. We are also able to see the apex ( tip ) of your roots and underneath your gums where the bone lies. With the use of dental Xrays, we can rule out any disease in the mouth. Some types of X-rays called Bite Wings are used to see cavities between teeth while other types like OPG give us an overview of the whole mouth as well as upper and lower jaw. Any infection under a possible root can be diagnosed by this valuable X-ray. OPG which is short for Orthopantogram is used to find infections, cysts, abnormalities as well as other problems in the jaws. Missing teeth or impacted wisdom teeth can also be identified by the use of OPG. The extent of a possible bone loss due to periodontal disease is easily seen in either BW or PA X -rays.
Most common types of dental X-rays are Bitewings, Periapical and OPG ( Panoramic). WE might take 2 Bitewings Xrays every 6 months to check for possible cavities between your teeth. At My Tehran Dentist, we have digital X-rays with the minimum dose of radiation. Any early sign of cavity or gum disease can be detected and prevented. To view the height of the tooth or the roots we usually take one or two PA Xrays. A panoramic X-ray is taken from outside of your mouth and shows us the entire picture of your oral cavity on a larger size X-rays. With this, we can see Cysts, impacted teeth, jaw problems and bone disease. For Orthodontics we usually take cephalometric Xray to give us a profile picture of the patient.
