What happens the first time we see your child at our office?
Our Dentists have years of experience treating children both in UK and Denmark. We keep the first dental visit very short and with little or no treatment at all. This visit helps your child to get to know us and play with our instruments and equipment( like airing a balloon etc). We usually ask you to seat with your child in the dentist chair and lift the chair up and down to make friends with your child. If we feel that the child is happy then we start counting their teeth to build more trust. The majority of kids let us do some sort of treatment the very first time. It is imperative that the child does not see injections etc which we usually do not use at first treatment anyways. During this initial examination, we check for decay, any bite issues as well as gums and the whole mouth. We will encourage you to help your children brushing and in some instances even flossing.
We take in account Fluoride needs, cavity prevention, and proper nutrition as our main goal in children dentistry. We schedule a free 6 months to 12 months visit to monitor your kid's teeth just to maintain the good oral health they deserve. My Tehran dentist has been providing children dentistry to the German School in Tehran as well as Italian School in Farm Annie Tehran and the British School when it was open. We are on the list of British, Swiss, Italian and many other embassies in Iran since our dentists have many years of experience from the United Kingdom.
Topics your dentist may discuss with you might include:
Good oral hygiene practices for your child’s teeth and gums
Oral habits (thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, lip sucking)
Developmental areas in oral cavity like teeth, bone etc
Schedule of dental checkup visits. Many dentists like to see children every 6 months to build up the child’s comfort and confidence level in visiting the dentist, to monitor the development of the teeth, and to promptly treat any developing problems.
Points to remember: As soon as your child’s first tooth erupts, it is time to schedule a visit to the dentist. We recommend that the first dental visit is within six months after the first tooth erupts, but no later than a child’s 1st birthday. Do not wait for your child to start school or until there's a dental problem ( Worst case scenario). Get your child comfortable today with the dentist and with good healthy habits.
The first visit is mainly for the dentist to examine your child’s mouth ( teeth and gums ) and to check growth and development, it’s also about your child being comfortable and to get to know the dentist and staff alike. Please consider below notes to make the visit positive:
Morning appointments are much better if this is a first dental visit.
Keep any anxiety or concerns you might have to yourself. Children will pick up on parent"s emotions, so emphasize the positive by going to the dentist ( Magic chair, Ballon etc )
A dental visit is not a punishment or threat. Always speak positively about the dentist
Never bribe your child but give them a small present when the dental visit is over
Talk with your child about visiting the dentist regularly
Ask your children to draw something for the dentist.
